"Welcome to my ever changing quilt world. The seasons and months bring on new challenges. My, how fast it all happens and my apologies for a tardy update. Spring and summer, 2009, are a mixture of family, garden, quilt shows, new designs and hitting the quilt road.
It was fun going to the IQA Quilt Market in Pittsburgh and viewing the new Marie Webster line of fabric with Baum/Windham Textiles. Do look for this floral line in your quilt shops as it is a pastel array of flowers so fitting for our season and for our beds. Soon you will be able to download the "Beddy Byes" pattern I designed for this fabric on the www.windhamfabrics.com web site. Check it out on my blog with a better update once it is quilted.
Speaking of quilt stores, My Quilt Shoppe, owned by Lanna and David Gordich, has moved to a new location. It's 1032C Greenville Highway, still on the south side of Hendersonville. It is near Merrill Paint Store, the DoughBoy donut shop and the Creative Needle Studio. By the way, if you are coming to town and would like a personal visit or a group demo and visit to the Quilt Built studio please just email me.
Soon I will be touring the beautiful corn fields of Indiana on my annual visit to the Quilters Hall of Fame in Marion. How proud we are to induct Merikay Waldvogel this year. Hope to see you there July 15-20th! Expect to see wonderful exhibits, stimulating lectures, and the Montreat Retreat Quilters Sunflower collection of quilts inspired by Marie Webster.
Go west, quilters, go west! We head to the Nine Quarter Circle Ranch for the annual quilt retreat--two different week opportunities- August 23-30 and then August 30 to Sept 6th. Last year the theme design was an eagle and this year it is a bison. A trip to Yellowstone that is just down the road certainly means an encounter with these huge animals--from the car, of course. They provoke western images of our native americans history. There is still time to join us for classes, hikes, fishing and riding. Our town trip to Bozeman is a must!
Have you ever wanted to attend a craft school? JC Campbell is the best opportunity to learn and mix with an assortment of creative people and eat gourmet food. Check out their web site at www.folkschool.org for an array of classes. I will be teaching the Calico Crossover (cover quilt of Easy Does It Quilts book) in November, 2009.
The Master Gardener program here in Henderson County is a win/win proposition. Learning about plants, landscaping and vegetable gardening is so much fun. Getting out in the dirt and then picking your own squash for dinner is perfect and a change of pace.
Now, back to my Bernina as I meet those deadlines.
PS Check out the AQS show in Knoxville this July 22-25. I have two pieces on exhibit there: the PTA group collection of "Laughter" along with the Sparta County group quilt called The Teapot Quilt.
